We left tired but the trip was great. Reuben and Libor set up climbing and rappelling spots on Saturday morning and made sure we had a great time. On Sunday the Wolverines and the Hurtles split on the ten mile hike, and the Hurtles went to see Greeter Falls, making 13 miles, and the water was freezing. Gotta see the pics below.

Percy Warner Park 10-mile hiking trip
Left at 7:50, with 5 adults, 7 scouts, 6 webelos, and 3 dogs. We completed a 10 mile hike and went geocaching. The trail was muddy but it was a good hike. We are all dirty and the dogs were the highlight of the trip. Every one did great including the webelos. We had lunch at Edwin Warner Park and everyone had a lunch but we tired. Here’s our after pic.
MBU at MTSU
We had a great trip to MTSU for a Merit Badge University. Most of the scouts were able to earn a full merit badge and the others have pretty good headway.

Target has inexpensive polyester long underwear for kids along with kids’ long-sleeve polyester athletic shirts (both Champion brand). And as of today, they also had Champion polyester athletic tops & bottoms in Men’s sizes on sale for $ 5-7 a piece.
Academy has BCG brand polyester leggings & shirts for about $10-15. (Think: Under Armour, only not nearly as expensive!) I’ve also heard another place to find reasonably-priced polyester underlayers & wool socks is in the hunting section at Walmart.
In cold weather, layers of synthetic fabric (polyester, nylon, fleece, etc.) with a wind-proof outer layer & wool socks is the way to go, especially if you will be working up a sweat doing things like skiing or backpacking. As the saying goes, “Cotton kills” – it absorbs moisture, is slow to dry, and chafes when wet. In short, it increases your chances of hypothermia and general discomfort.
So, it pays to buy polyester/nylon & fleece for outdoor activities. And the kids will use them again and again on all sorts of trips!
Due to some scheduling issues at Boxwell, we had to switch around our weekends. We will now be going to Camp Boxwell Climbing/Rappelling on the wall and hiking 10 miles the weekend of March 4-6. We will be going backpacking to Land Between the Lakes the weekend of April 1-3.
Troop 3 will be taking a ski trip to Paoli Peaks, IN next weekend.
Because of BSA’s policy on helmet use for winter sports activities, all scouts attending will need to complete the Helmet Release Form from Paoli Peaks.
Parents of all scouts attending will need to sign the Liability Release agreement & ski/snowboard equipment rental agreement at the meeting on Monday which Reuben will have. Please be sure to check in with him.
Remember that the trip plan is available online in google documents. Please look over the plan and update with any information you may have. Contact Reuben or leave a comment on this post if you have any questions.
Additionally, scouts can access the Alpine MB Brochure and the Snowboard MB Brochure to see what the requirements will be.
