frozen head hike
When we got to the site we set up a canopy, then we hit the trail! When we first started we stopped at some water falls, saw some salamanders, and interesting plants.
Then the hike started getting a little harder. we had to climb up some pretty hard slopes. We also had to cross some slick rock difficulty. There was some water running down rocks that we had to cross to get back on the trail.
A few miles went by and we stopped in a large cave to eat lunch and use steri pens to sterilize our water.
The food was great and filled me up. We started on our way again and it got really foggy. We knew we were nearing the top, then we saw it, the fire watch tower. it was huge!
we all climbed up to the top. the dog had some trouble with the metal floor. We found a chestnut tree and took some of the good nuts.
Then we headed back down. on the way back we had another problem, a big tree had fallen on the path, the boys climbed over it but the grown ones just went around it. Once we figured that out we went on our way again. It wasn’t long until we got back to camp. I think that the hike was a great experience.

Frozen Head Trip, 9-21-13
We met at the church at six o’clock when it was still dark and raining. We packed our gear in the cars after eating delicious sausage and biscuits made by Miss Becky. The ride was about two and a half hours but it seemed shorter. When we arrived it was raining still, so we put on our rain gear and some scouts set up a pop-up tent to stand under so Miss Helen could talk to us about the trails that we were about to go on for the ten-mile hike. We decided to go on the hike first because the rain would clear in an hour or so. After we were briefed on the hiking trails and safety, we walked to the trail head. The hike was moderate but there were some steep places. We hiked about 5 miles to the place we would have lunch, which was a large rock overhang with a table under it, which was an Eagle Scout project. After we ate lunch, we hiked up a hill to the observation tower. That short hike to the observation tower was the most strenuous part in my opinion. It was rewarding to get to be on the observation tower. It was cool and misty because we were in a thick layer of fog. Nothing could really be seen because of the fog but I know it would be an excellent view if it was a clear day. We then began our hike down the mountain. On the way down, we saw an old well house covered in moss and later an old dynamite shack.
After the hike, we set up our tents while others set up the camp kitchens for each patrol. After everything was set up, a lot of us were told to look for firewood. While the Honey Badgers were preparing to make their pizzas, we collected as much firewood as we could, but it was either soaked with water or rotten. After we had diner, we tried to make a fire, but it goes out, then Libor steps in and makes a huge fire. After the fire got going, we started the camp fire ceremony and had fun, then we went to sleep. The breakfast was good the next morning. The Otters had breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, and sausage. The Bucks had oatmeal, but I don’t know what the Honey Badgers had. After breakfast, we just had fun looking for salamanders, newts, and crawfish in the creek, and climbing up roots sticking out of a dirt drop-off. After packing up our things, we were going to go to a waterfall to swim and have fun but on the hike up there, we realized it was almost time to go, so we turned back. We got in the cars and left. We shortly arrived at the church, put up the gear, and put out the perishable food for the scouts to take. Soon, the parking lot was empty and everyone had gone home.
We were at the church early on Saturday morning loading our gear into the cars. We took a picture of the group right before we left. The car ride wasn’t very fun, and when we stopped for gas a lot of people had money, but it was in the trailer. We had lunch at historic rest stop, and the let us eat on the front porch. It was raining at the time, and we left as soon as we cleaned up.
We made one stop after lunch at a gas station, but besides that we were driving the whole time. We passed over many rivers including the Ohio, Mississippi, and the Tennessee. When we arrived it was still bright outside. We set up our tents and prepared dinner. Then we went to bed.
We woke up early that morning to find out we weren’t going canoeing that day, because the water was to high. Instead we went to a waterfall full of fish. Most people played with the hacky sack while other people fished. We had lunch their, and stayed for about 4 hours. 
Then, we went back and had dinner. That night we played fireball. Everyone stands in a circle and throws the ball to each other. If you don’t catch it you’re out. At 10 o’clock we went to bed.
The next morning we woke up and we didn’t go canoeing again, because the water was too high. That day we decided to go to Devils Well. You walk down a long stairway and you you see a gate. We push a light switch button, but nothing happened. We pressed it again, but this time we looked around and below us was an under ground lake with a little waterfall. We hiked the trail at the entrance and found a lot of mushrooms, and crossed many creeks. We saw cave springs and very interesting wild flowers. When we finished the hike we had lunch and fished at the pond in front of Devils Well. We went back to camp and had dinner. After dinner we had a campfire ceremony and went to bed.
On the eve of March 8, we prepared to embark on an epic adventure to uncharted territory: the Shiloh Military trails in West Tennessee.
With high hopes, we arrived late that night at our campsite. Those hopes were brought down when we discovered we had forgotten our water cooler. However, we weren’t going to let that stop us. We mustered on through the night and a good breakfast of Scout McMuffins. Then, there came the rising action of the day. We reached the trail, and prepared to set out.
We later discovered that the maps and instructions we were provided were pretty much garbage. We once again mustered through and made it to lunch. We had us some good sandwiches before setting back to the trail. Then, things started to get hairy. We encountered several obstacles, such as us scouts getting lazy and an impossible to find question. Late in the afternoon, we faced a question. We could either finish the hike, or go ahead and go back to the campsite. Several advocates led the fight to continue the hike, which we did. At the end of the hike, however, due to the horrible directions and map, we counted five extra miles. We made an executive decision to do an extra mile and reward a few scouts with the coveted 20-miler and the others with two tens.
We arrived back at our campsite late, ate a chicken dinner and s’mores, and then hit the hay. The next day was more leisurely. We woke up, and while the cooks made pancakes for a while, the rest of us played soccer or did some advancement. We finally broke camp, packed up our stuff, and headed home, hitting up some geocaches along the way. Those were alright, but it would soon be time for the moment everyone was waiting for, the promised delicious pie.
No one was disappointed. Afterwards, we finished up the trip and made it home. All in all, it was a good trip, and we all learned things(both in knowledge and in lessons.)This is definitely a considerable trip for the future.

Sewanee Hiking trip- 20 miles
This was a very fun day hike but also turned out to be one of the most brutal. We started around 9:00 and stayed in a group until about mile one where we split up.
We walked on while observing some very pretty views, acorn throwing, and the Sewanee wilderness. At around mile 6.5 we sat down for lunch and filled up water bottles. Despite some problems with knowledge of how to use the steripen, lunch was pretty good.
We then continued the backbreaking hike over the hills of Sewanee and a few paved areas. Around the 15 mile mark we hit a paved trail that was relatively flat and continued our trek as the sun ducked behind the trees.
It became complete darkness when we finally reached the cross on the hill but it made a great place to stop and rest.
From that point on our spirits were lifted and we continued hiking the last 1 mile on pavement. By the end of the hike our feet and legs were aching for relief so we got in the cars and went to hardys for some dinner without shoes. Overall this was a fun trip although I probably would not do this again for a while.
