- The Kids area at the Tomato Festival opened early this year to beat the heat. We sold Becky’s famous sausage biscuits with a slice of tomato, muffins, and coffee. Later in the day we fired up the grill and served hotdogs. The snowcones were a big hit again. We had a really good crowd, it was a successful fundraiser, and we had a lot of fun!
Tomato Fest
Come on out and join us at Tomato Art Fest. As you can see from the stroller parking, we are at the children’s area. Come to 12th and Holly to get your hot dog and snow cone.
New Leadership
Troop 3 had elections this past week at the meeting. Tonight, the website committee met at Ugly Mugs to begin the transition. Antonin, the former webmaster helped to train the new webmaster, Johan, and assistant webmaster, Josh, by updating all of the scout pages with the new leadership positions.
Our former Senior Patrol Leader, Rhys, has been appointed to a new position in the troop, the Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. This new role will be responsible for managing community service opportunities, including Tomato Fest and Feeding the Homeless at the Downtown Presbyterian Church.
The new Senior Patrol Leader, Jordan, chose Eric to be his Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
Here are some links where you can see a full list of the new Troop Leaders, Hurtles Leaders, and Wolverines Leaders.
Nick’s HAT report
High Adventure was really fun but was also very challenging at the same time. It was a trip to learn a lot of things about camping and to really get you into shape. I personally learned a lot about being prepared and not leaving things in cars. Pretty much the whole backpacking part of the trip I was unprepared because I left a bunch of things that I needed in Reuben‘s car. This trip also got a big break off of technology which I think a bunch of people are addicted too. This trip also had activities such as white water rafting and climbing and rappelling. We all learned some valuable things on this trip. This was one of the hardest but one of the most fun trips I have been on.
Libor’s HAT report
In my opinion, the 2011 High Adventure Trip was great. Splitting the troop into patrols for the backpacking portion proved to be an excellent idea which enabled all boys to challenge themselves without leaving anyone behind. I am definitely going to Cohutta Wilderness again. It is quite a backpacking gem. Climbing & rappelling at Lost Wall was fun. Things could go little bit faster but we probably could have set up another climbing top rope or shorter rappel. Rafting Nantahala river was the cherry on top of a well planned trip where everyone had a blast. It just takes closing my eyes for a few seconds in these days to re-live the rapids, the storm, the shiver, and the laughter of everyone on this trip. Just wait until someone calls your name and with a big smile says ‘HI’ upon getting your attention.
Chris’s HAT report
I think High Adventure was a little easy. I think we should do do every thing the same but with more water. The food was great, the water was cold and the mosquitoes were annoying. my favorite thing on the trip was white water rafting in a thunder storm that made me scared at first then it was a lot of fun. I got scared when David fell out of the raft but Libor and everyone in his raft saved him. The one thing that attacked me was a crawdad. I hate that crawdad, but I brought it upon my self I moved a rock and it attacked me. High Adventure was awesome.

Collin’s trip report
I enjoyed all of the activities that we did, especially the white water rafting. It was fun because it started storming about half way through. I would like to do all of the activities again. I don’t think there is anything I would do differently other than try to climb higher on the rock climbing.
Emily’s trip report
This high adventure trip was better than going to Disney. The Palmetto bugs at Cloudland Canyon were scarier than the haunted house, the line for climbing and rappelling was way shorter than the line for Space Mountain, and we had thunder and mist on the white water rafting trip just like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Lubos’s potatoes were better than anything the chefs at Disney could whip up, and while we didn’t get to meet any of the Disney characters, hanging out with the boys was very much like hanging out with Goofy. All of this for a fraction of the price of a one day Disney pass. I would like to spend more time in the Nantahala area and would love to take another white water rafting trip.
